With rain gardens, everyone can get in on protecting our precious water resources!

During a rain event, rain water travels from roofs, sidewalks, roadways and other impermeable surfaces through the path of least resistance towards area storm drains or low lying areas. This water carries with it the many pollutants and sediments from these different surfaces at sometimes a very high velocity. Rain Gardens are designed to capture this runoff and slow down its movement, allowing the water to infiltrate naturally into the groundwater system while also trapping those pollutants and sediments. Native plant species installed within the Rain Garden offer both an aesthetically pleasing atmosphere as well as habitat for beneficial insects and other animals.
